The annual Tyger River Paleo Challenge begins this coming MONDAY, APRIL 6! There is a $10 buy-in that goes toward the purse the winners will split. Put $10 in an envelope, write your name and "Paleo Challenge" on the outside, and drop it in the dues bucket.
This year, we had this great idea to use this cool Paleo Challenge app! Turns out it is only $0.99 to download the app and start a challenge, but it is $9.99 to JOIN a challenge! Tricky bastards. So instead, we decided to play by the rules in the Paleo Challenge app. You can review the point values for foods within the app under the "Pure Food Guide" and I have them in the spreadsheet below as well. Joining the challenge within the app is voluntary, as it is a $9.99 charge. (This is not the same as the $10 buy-in you need to put in the bucket.) If you don't use the app, you can track your own points manually. The challenge name in the app is "Tyger River Paleo Challenge 2015," if you choose to join it.
Points will count UP this year and we will be following the "Pure" food guide, not the "Primal" (and certainly not the "Intro"). The gist: Zero points for meat, non-starchy vegetables, and healthy fats. Processed meats (bacon, lunch meat), nuts/nut butter/seeds, and sweet potato are allowed once a day, within guidelines. More than this and you will add a point. (Technically, fruit is allowed twice a day, but I think we can be somewhat flexible with that as long as you aren't going ape and gorging on fruit bowls.) Two points for every serving of everything else: sweets, treats, wheats, grains, beans, dairy, and all other standard American diet foods ("SAD foods"). EXCEPTION: The Pure food guide adds two points per alcoholic beverage. Like last year, we are going to allow two 4oz glasses of wine OR two 1oz servings of tequila a WEEK. Either/or. Or one of each.
Now, say you blow it, fall completely off the wagon one day, and can't even begin to tally every dietary sin you committed. Cap your points at 12 and stop there. Start over with a fresh slate the next day.
Sleep, fish oil, WODs, and water are BONUS points. These will be subtracted from your app/food score. For this, we have a spreadsheet. Print it and track manually or save it and track in the spreadsheet that auto-calculates for you. Write your weekly total on the leaderboard in the TRCF lobby.
"What do they win, Bob?" Besides the envy of your peers, winners win MONEY! There will be two challenge winners: one male and one female. These two will split the purse of entry fees. Winners will be determined based on their points AND their biometrics (pounds lost, % body weight lost, % body fat changed, measurements, etc).
